Pink Noise Pollution

- for more diversity at event technology -

About us

We are a queerfeminist¹, non-commercial, DIY event technology collective and are committed to more diversity behind the mixing desk and other event technology.

What experience do we have?

We have been around since September 2021 and since then we have supported and collaborated with a number of different projects and events. For example:

  • small and large concerts of various genres
  • vigils and demonstrations
  • Open stage evenings and jam sessions
  • Festivals
  • art exhibitions
  • Parties incl. performances and DJ sets
  • Recording & mixing of demo albums for bands
  • Workshop days in various locations throughout NRW
  • internal & external skill sharing
  • movie nights
  • panel discussions
  • readings
  • and much more

What do we offer?

Workshops

We offer introductory workshops for people who are structurally disadvantaged in the field of event technology. In addition to imparting knowledge, we also focus on empowerment, networking and working together to find ways of dealing with cis-male dominated structures and behavior in the industry. You can find more information about our workshops here.

Technical support at events

We support events and projects by taking care of the (sound) technology on site and, if necessary, organizing and planning together with the organizers in advance. Our focus here is on queer and feminist events. In general, however, we are happy to support anyone who wants to break down the existing cis-male dominated structures behind the mixing desk and beyond.

We don't see ourselves as service providers, but as part of the event.

Skill Sharing

We are always happy to provide support when people want to try out event technology and gain more experience, but don't feel ready to do it on their own or simply find it nicer not to do it alone.

Do It Yourself

We are a constantly growing and evolving collective. If you would like to work with us, please keep in mind that we are self-organized and 100% handmade. This means that we have different levels of knowledge and experience.

Funding

We are non-commercial and come from a non-commercial DIY context. Especially the support of events or projects with a clear political claim is important to us. If you don't have any money, we would still like to support you and share our knowledge with you. If you have funding or other financing options, we would like to appeal to you to look at your own assessment of what our work is worth to you and what is available to you.
Since July 2024, we have received funding from Soziokultur NRW, which enables us to finance our own equipment and internal training.

Structurally disadvantaged - what does that mean?

The event technology sector is extremely cis-male dominated. By structurally disadvantaged, we mean women, lesbians, inter*, trans* and non-binary people in particular. However, since other forms of discrimination also play a role, we don't want to limit ourselves to just that. As predominantly white, abled, childless and partly with an academic background, we also have privileges in our collective. We see it as our responsibility to be aware of these and to work continuously to ensure that as many structurally disadvantaged people as possible can feel safe with us.

FLINTA*

We are not a FLINTA* collective but see ourselves as an allgender collective in which trans*, non-binary and questioning people are active. Both in the group and in the spaces in which we move, we do not want to limit ourselves to “FLINTA* only”. Unfortunately, “FLINTA* only” spaces are currently very cis female dominated or connoted in practice and therefore not a sufficiently safe and comfortable space for many inter*, trans* and non-binary people.

Why work collectively?

For us, collective working has two levels - the personal and the structural.
On a personal level, collective work means not being alone in contexts that don't always feel safe to us. We can move around together in spaces and exchange ideas and find solutions together if we find ourselves in an uncomfortable situation. The collective therefore serves as a place to retreat, to recharge our batteries, to reflect together and, of course, to have a lot of fun, gain new experiences and share knowledge with each other.
Structurally, we see our collective as part of a queerfeminist movement and want to have an impact on society as a whole and promote change. In our collective work, we can share resources, experience and knowledge. Decisions are made together and responsibility is shared as a result.

The problem of "Pinkwashing"

We want to change structures sustainably. We therefore see ourselves as part of the event for which we are asked and want everyone there to question and reflect on their positions. We don't want to be booked as a token to sell a feminist organization to the outside world that doesn't deal with its own patriarchal structures on the inside.
